Biography
French artist, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Montepellier and later at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1964, he started teaching at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Nice and, in 1967, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Limoges. In 1968, he started holding regular exhibitions at the Jean Fournier Gallery in Paris and, in 1969, he became a member of the Support-Surface group, which he left in 1971. In 1972, he took part in the exhibition, Amsterdam-Paris-Düsseldorf at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and, in 1973, he started teaching at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Luminy, Marseilles. In 1976, he exhibited at the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York and, in 1979, he was made director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nimes. In 1982, he had his first major retrospective exhibition at the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris. In 1988, he was responsible for the French pavilion at the Venice Biennale and, today, continues with his teaching career.
