Biography
Born in Santiago de Cuba. The artist conceives and explains his work based on placing two things into relationship: the modern trends in art and the jungle. Mariño establishes this relationship with symbolic citations of the western contemporary art, from the dadaist Duchamp's Fountain, Duane Hanson's hyperrealist de Woman with a car, Beuys' conceptualism, Baselitz's neo-expressionism, to Pistoletto's arte povera to create a non-hierarchic criticism, through which progress may be possible to displace the ruling system and prove that there is not a superior art and an inferior one. The importance is to take art to the life limits to verify the whole system. The second exhibition of Mariño in Madrid, in 2000, Galeria Angel Romero is called "Ropa usada, Para los otros del tercer mundo". These works are more ironical and nostalgic than critical.
